Commercial Airplanes

Boeing’s relationship with Vietnam began in 1995, when Vietnam Airlines leased three Boeing 767-300ERs (Extended Range). The first business transaction between the U.S. and Vietnam, under the historic Bilateral Trade Agreement, was Vietnam Airlines’ purchase of four Boeing 777-200ERs in 2001.

Boeing has continued its commitment to developing Vietnam’s commercial aviation sector by facilitating new airplane leases, sourcing parts from companies based in Vietnam, working with the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and Vietnam’s airlines to provide on-the-job training as well as helping Vietnam integrate itself into the global aviation environment to meet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.

Boeing projects Vietnam will be Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing aviation market, with passenger traffic expected to double and exceed 75 million annual passengers in the next 10 years.

Defense, Space & Security

Boeing’s mission is to deliver the most digitally advanced, simply and efficiently produced, and intelligently supported solutions to global customers. Boeing has the full portfolio of capability from seabed to space that are connected across all domains and critical to enabling future flight and delivering decisive mission advantage.

In 2019, Vietnam was approved through the U.S. Foreign Military Sales process for the acquisition of six ScanEagle unmanned aerial system to be operated by the Vietnam Coast Guard. ScanEagle is manufactured by Insitu, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boeing. The ScanEagle has transformed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) services for tactical UAS, providing a vital edge for Vietnam’s maritime domain awareness. And we are proud to continue this mission with Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defence.

Supply Chain

As an expanding manufacturing hub, Vietnam has emerged as a central node in regional and global supply chains. Boeing is committed to its strong relationships with Vietnamese suppliers and partnering to create a strong, efficient and resilient global supply chain to deliver the highest quality products and services for our customers. Seven suppliers based in Vietnam are manufacturing aircraft parts, including aerostructures, electronic components and composites.

Boeing is bringing best practices in supply chain to Vietnam through knowledge sharing on managing supply chain quality, readiness and health.

Boeing regularly conducts supply chain workshops to bring key suppliers, government agencies and universities together to share best practices in manufacturing.

Sustainable and Safe Aviation

Sustainability is a top priority for Boeing. Southeast Asia’s feedstocks can supply approximately 12% of global sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) demand to meet the commercial aviation industry’s net-zero goal by 2050, according to a report developed by Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB) and supported by Boeing. Vietnam, along with Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines’ total feedstock availability accounts for about 90% of the region’s SAF supply capacity.

Boeing and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore strategic initiatives to enhance the safety and efficiency of Vietnam’s national air traffic management (ATM) system. Boeing and VATM will explore joint projects in key areas, including airspace management, particularly supporting the opening of the Long Thanh International Airport and optimizing operations across the Ho Chi Minh metroplex.

Community Engagement

Boeing’s community engagement efforts in Vietnam focus on impactful initiatives in STEM education, literacy, trafficking prevention, and safe school programs.

Over the years, sustained partnerships with local partners have enabled Boeing to enhance educational opportunities for youth, improve school infrastructure, and foster social empowerment.

These programs address critical needs within Vietnamese communities, supporting long-term development and creating positive social outcomes across the region.
